From the vault: a matte starry night

Good morning all! Here's another mani from the vault, one that I mattified (there's just some about matte glitters, don't you think?) but loved both ways! The glitter that I used has some holographic glitter as well, which stood out more when shiny though. The glitter applied great, but just as last time, I did have to fish the stars out a bit. There's plenty of them in the bottle, but they're just not so eager to come out! :)

Catrice How I Matt Your Mother with I Love Nail Polish Once Upon A Starry Night and Essence Matt.

The base looks a lot darker here than it does mattified, but that's mainly the light, it depends a bit from where you look at it. When I used HIMYM it reminded me again what a great polish it is, it applied easy, covers well, dries fast and it's a gorgeous color!

Here you can see the holo stars and glitters a bit better, and even though I have loads of options to combine it with, I think I'll wear Once Upon A Starry Night again on this base sometime ♥

I'd love to hear what you think of this combo, take care! :)

Catrice Thrilling Me Softly - Preview

Hi guys! Before I'll continue with the Limited Edition below, I have a question for you, do you prefer seeing a preview of the whole LE (including make up) or as I post now, just the polish and nail related stuff?

The LE Thrilling Me Softly is available from end October till November, and as usual, you can click the image below for an enlargement.

From left to right: Discreet, Suspect, Occult, Allure and Daredevil.

Based on these images, Allure looks pretty interesting, but the rest doesn't appeal to me as much. What do you think of this LE?

Inspired by... nail strips

Good afternoon! Yesterday I showed you some nail strips, and when I picked out those 2 sets, I also got inspired by one of the other sets! For this mani I started with a light blue base and used saran wrap to sponge some darker areas on it, then stamped the spots on top. The strips look darker and have more teal spots as well, but I liked the lighter result with 1 color already and was afraid it would just get a bit too much else, especially because my nails are a lot shorter than those strips! The strips also look more furry, which my stamped image isn't, but regardless of that, I'm loving how it turned out :)

Essence Fall For Me, Essence Let's Get Lost, Konad Black and Bundle Monster plate 221.

And this was the inspiration:

Image from OMGNailStrips

I think I'm loving the strips even more than the mani, but saran wrapped with an animal print is definitely something I'll do again, and next time I'd use another sponging color afterall! :) What do you think of these? Thanks for looking & take care ♥

OMGNailStrips Love nail polish strips

Hi guys! Just a quick post today with a review of nail strips. I'll start with the result for a change :)

Here's how they look in the package (I'll show the other ones some other time) and the different sizes you get. I used the smallest sizes, but on my thumb I could've used 1 size bigger to fully cover the sides. Considering the size of the biggest ones, I'm sure you could also use these for a pedi! And I kept my nails fairly long for this review, but I still had enough left from each strip that I'm sure I could do a full mani + pedi with 1 package.

And here's a closer look at the design I'm showing today. Poodles, haha! So cute indeed ^^

I was surprised by how easy these strips went on, they're pretty thin and with that, very flexible as well! I've tried strips before but sometimes they're quite hard and wrinkle easily. I barely had any wrinkles, and I can't say I struggled much with preventing wrinkles either, a great first try :)

I think these make for a fun mani/pedi, or a great accentnail!

OMGNailStrips can be bought on their website, and you can check them out on Facebook as well. As you can see here, they have plenty of choice, and what I like is that they don't only offer designs like this, but also some that look like handmade nailart, like the splatter, but then without any mess! The strips cost $6,89 per set, but they now also offer a 4pack for $20 or a 10pack for $45.

What do you think of strips like these, would you use them? Thanks for looking!

From the vault: Shimmer Polish Karen & Jenny

Hey all :) I didn't plan on posting anything today, because the early access of the game Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn started today! Haven't played Final Fantasy in years, kupo! But I tried the beta and it brought back so many memories that I was looking forward to play some more today. Aaaand then the servers went down, lol, so instead of looking at an empty serverlist, I decided to look at my unposted stuff. And there we have it, a post today afterall =) And it's a sparkly one, with Shimmer Polish Karen & Jenny!

Shimmer Polish Jenny
Jenny

Jenny is described as a cyan blue mix, and as with almost all Shimmer Polishes, it has so many different glitters! Different sized blue glitter, purple, gold, copper, you name it. I used 3 coats with top coat. And as with most of them as well, it's also perfect for layering or glittergradients :)

Shimmer Polish Karen
Karen

Karen is described as a lavender purple, but it also packs lots of big and small holographic glitter. Again 3 coats with top coat, and again perfect for layering or gradients!

Shimmer Polish Karen
Karen

These polishes are so packed with all kinds of glittery goodness, making them quite tricky to capture or describe for me. But if you love glitters, I'm sure Shimmer Polish will make you squee and stare at your nails all day long!

You can buy Shimmer Polish on the website or on Etsy, and you can also find Shimmer on Facebook.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend ♥

Dots and stripes

Hey all! Here's another mani with one of the Autumn Nights polishes as stamping polish, and just like Scandalous Shenanigans, Rendezvous With You worked well too! I hope you're not tired of matte yet, because this one just asked for a matte top coat as well :)

China Glaze Below Deck, China Glaze Rendezvous With You, 2 images from plate DRK-A and Essence Matt.

I wanted to show you as well how this sparkly polish looks as stamping polish with top coat, but I'm loving the matte more :) What do you think of this combo?

Have a wonderful day!

Essence Paper Print - love it or leave it?

Yeah, I guess the title already gives a hint about the tone of this review. It feels like I've done several less positive reviews this month, and I don't like writing those and would rather just skip this whole thing. But I know some people were wondering about the Essence Paper Print stuff as well, so I'll post my findings anyway. I'll appologise in advance for the nail pics, they ain't as nice as I'd like, but after my first try I was more in the mood to throw things away than to make photos or polish and cleanup neatly >.<

But lets take it from the start, shall we? The Paper Print stuff comes in 4 variations with a transfer solution sold separate. I chose the love themed variation, and as you can see, it's quite a big sheet of paper! All 4 sheets have nice and original images, and text used on them is printed backwards, so it'll be correct on the nails. The papers cost €1,39 and the transfer solution €1,89. So far, so good, and I was excited to try it out.

Both the transfer solution and the paper explain how it works. I chose a completely colored image, and the size I cut out here, was what I needed for 4 nails. So you do get quite a few manis out of a sheet.

I used a white base and used top coat to help it dry quicker. I then went for the first nail, and the result was so lousy that I tried other methods straight away.

Pink: transfer solution on paper, pressed down with a dry pad
Ring: transfer solution on nail and on paper, pressed down with a dry pad
Middle: transfer solution on paper and on top of paper, pressed down with a pad with alcohol
Index: pressed down with a pad with alcohol

All of the options barely transferred, only the darker parts transferred a little bit, and there's no color on my nails at all! Was it the top coat in between? I'm not sure, I wouldn't expect that to make any difference, but I tried it again without TC.

So I wiped off the TC with failed print, so I just had polish on my nails. I went for a simple black image, because the darker areas did seem to transfer a little. And I went for the same methods as above, so:

Pink: transfer solution on paper, pressed down with a dry pad
Ring: transfer solution on nail and on paper, pressed down with a dry pad
Middle: transfer solution on paper and on top of paper, pressed down with a pad with alcohol
Index: pressed down with a pad with alcohol

This image did transfer a lot better, and I applied top coat after. It didn't smudge (right image), so that was a plus! And it seems the Essence way, so just transfer solution on the paper, works just as well -if not better- than the other ways.

Then I thought, I'll give the remaining 4 images on the sheet a try as well, and I'll go for a different base, without top coat. I went with the application Essence describes, so transfer solution on the paper only and pressed down with a dry pad.
My indexfinger has the colorful flower print, only a tiny bit of blue transferred. My middle-/ringfinger have the dark flower print and text with red hearts print (can't remember which had what, but it barely transferred anyway), my pink had the black text/image print.

Now I'm sure I'm partially to blame here as well, don't get me wrong. I'm not exactly experienced with transfers like this, it might go better with more practice (although I'd expect smudged transfers and such from lack of experience, not lack of transfer) and I probably shouldn't have used top coat for my first try. But it seems to me that only the black images transfer well.
And yeah, another newspaper product that I'm being a bit of a Negative Nancy about, I know, I know :/ But you can get decent results from the standard newspaper nails, and I'll link to Nailderella again, if you can achieve this result at home, I just get my hopes up!

Again, I do like the images and just as the previous newspaper product that I showed, I'll try this again as well. If I get a diffrerent result then, I'll make sure to post that as well!
If you try this as well, and did get a better result, I'd love to hear how you did it so please let me know!

Back to happy posts with normal polish and stamps! Thanks for looking :)

Scandalous blue roses

Hi guys! When I reviewed the Autumn Nights polishes, I already said you'd be seeing them stamped on my nails soon. Here's the first one tested on my nails, and it indeed worked like a charm for stamping! :)

China Glaze Electric Beat with China Glaze Scandalous Shenanigans, Bundle Monster plate 323 (large rose), Pueen plate 22 and Essence Matt.

I went for an accentnail with an image with larger areas, and as you can see, Scandalous Shenanigans had no problem with that either. Love stamping with polishes like these, especially when they're shiny the design really lights up (as you can maybe see a bit on the bottom pic, where the light hits my ringfinger) and it adds something extra to the result. I liked this mani with top coat as well, but this was one of those manis that screamed for some matte top coat! I'm really into matte again lately ♥ I'm also enjoying the accentnails at the moment, hope you like them too :)

Thanks for looking!

Essence Sparkle Sand Effect polishes

Goood afternoon all! When I showed the preview of the new Essence products, I already mentionned I was curious about the Sparkle Sand Effect polishes. And as you maybe saw on my Facebook or Instagram, I found them in the store the other day! I quickly threw them in my basket and somehow managed to resist buying more goodies, but I suspect some more stuff might end up in my stash sooner or later :)

When I got home and tried the sand polishes on swatchsticks they looked good, not as rough and gritty as some other brands, but a nice sandy result nevertheless! But then I tried them on my nails... I think letting each layer dry before applying the next gives the best result with textured polish, but I waited and waited, aaand waited some more. After that I could still easily make dents in the polish, and if I wasn't careful, I would've gotten big smudges I'm sure. Not impressive at all! But are the polishes making up for that? Let's have a look at the swatches!

Essence Sparkle Sand Effect

First up is Hey, Nude! I used 3 coats of this, it has a light beige base with silver glitter and very fine silver shimmer.
As you can see, there's still Visible Nail Lines! I usually don't like VNL at all, but somehow it didn't bug me too much with this polish. It's my first softer looking sand polish, and I do like the result, but I would've liked it a lot more without the VNL. I'll probably layer it on a 1-coater next time, think I might love it then!

Essence Sparkle Sand Effect

Essence Here's My Number

Next we have Here's My Number, 3 thin coats. It's a dark grey base with black and holographic glitters and a fine silver shimmer.
The holo glitters are much more visible in real life! On my swatchstick it now does look and feel more gritty (and it looks great, might I add!), next time I might try quick dry drops or spray if it dries slow again. I think those quick dry products will reduce the grittiness a bit as well though, because they have oils in them as well, but it's worth a shot!

Essence Here's My Number

Essence Sparkle Sand Effect

And the last one, Me & My Lover. Again 3 thin coats, it has a pink base which builds up to a red/pink color, and it has gold and dark pink(?) glitter and shimmer.
I was really looking forward to this specific color, but on the nail, it's the least of the 3 for me. I swatched this last and let it dry the least though, and again, it looks much better on the completely dry swatchstick! So as I said before, I'll try them again sometime, and this might end up as favorite afterall then. And maybe I'm just too spoiled by the drying time of OPI and Kiko sand polish? I'm not sure, and I know I'm whining a bit about the drying, but these would've been so awesome if it wasn't for that!

Essence Sparkle Sand Effect

Then I remembered a comment on Facebook from Anne-Marieke, who said that she really liked the result of one of these with a top coat. So I applied my beloved Seche Vite and OHH! Look at that!

Mmm so sparkly and rich! I really do hope I'll have a better experience with these polishes next time, but if not, I know how I'll be wearing them instead :)

Well, there you have them, the Sparkle Sand Effect polishes! What do you think of these, yay or nay?

Thanks for stopping by ♥

Edit, moderating comments that mention the polish Hey, ****! A while ago I had some issues with the ads on my blog, turns out that specific word was used 3 times and that caused all the problems, lol! Since then I also refer to polishes like that as beige, although on Facebook I got some nice suggestions from Martina, which gave me a good laugh: "Skincolored? Human-hue? No-clothes-on color!", haha. Anyway, I really love reading your comments, but I hope you understand that I'll just edit that word to prevent further issues :)

China Glaze Autumn Nights swatches & review

Hey guys! The other day I showed you the preview of China Glaze's Fall collection called Autumn Nights, and China Glaze kindly send me 6 of them for review, so today I have the swatches of those polishes for you. I was excited about these before I even saw the preview, to be precise from the moment I read on Love Varnish that one of them worked for stamping. You know I love finding normal polish that works well for stamping, and it's not the first time China Glaze brings out a collection that has some stamping beauties, so I was hoping this collection would have several more as well. But does it? Lets have a look at the swatches first!

All my swatches are without top coat as usual, the description of the polish comes from China Glaze.

Don't Make Me Wine
Reserve-worthy red-violet shimmer
China Glaze Don't Make Me Wine
Don't Make Me Wine

I used 2 coats of this polish to get full coverage. I think red-violet is a good description, it's one of those warm colors that is a bit in the middle between red/purple/pink. Even though I don't wear them so often, I always find myself easily attracted to these kind of colors :)

Red-y &Willing
Frisky red shimmer
China Glaze Red-y & Willing

Another polish that covered in 2 coats. It's a pretty and warm red, and reds like this always look lovely, but it does look fairly easy dupe-able. I had a look in my stash to see what came close to some of these, but more on that further down!

Rendezvous With You
Shimmery purple affair
China Glaze Rendezvous With You
Rendezvous With You

Hello there, 1-coater! I think these kind of finishes aren't the most ideal for stamping (the shimmery bits can get a bit stuck in the image and it often just doesn't transfer as pretty as some other finishes in my opinion), but I'm loving it on itself already. Because if you're in a rush and want to do a quick mani, this is a perfect polish to use, especially for Fall!

I'll just repeat myself: hello there, 1-coater! ^^ It's a rich blue indeed, and this goes straight into my stamping drawer!

Strike Up A Cosmo
Sparkling rose gold shimmer

I used 2 coats here. It's my least favorite of the bunch, because it just isn't my kind of color and I'm not too fond of polish with a foil finish. However, I do like how the golden bits are larger than the rest of the shimmer in it, and they seem to be floating on top a little! Please note though, the color often looks a bit warmer and more rosy than my pictures show, my camera captured this very light.

And what do we have here? Another 1-coater! And it's a beauty, my favorite even, can't wait to stamp with this ♥

Application: As I'm used to with China Glaze, all of these applied very well, but Don't Make Me Wine, Red-y & Willing, Scandalous Shenanigans and Tongue & Chic were a bit thicker than the other 2. I had no problems with that though, but that was something I noticed. I would definitely use top coat with these, I think they'll come more to life in normal light with top coat, plus I love the extra smooth shine of course!

Dupecheck: Not everyone has a big stash of polish, but especially for the people that do, I had a look in my stash to see what's close to 4 of these. Don't Make Me Wine was near China Glaze Stella on the swatchsticks, but that's more purple, this one looks warmer and more red/pink compared to Stella. The only thing that I have that came really close, is a very old Catrice polish called Bordeaux Red, but it wasn't a dupe. Red-y & Willing was closest to 2 other China Glaze polishes, Mommy Kissing Santa and Skate Night. But Mommy Kissing Santa is more red and less pink, Skate Night is closer in color but less vibrant. Tongue & Chic was a bit darker than all comparable in my stash, and the finish is different as well than most that came close, but if I forget about the finish, it's Essence In Style and Essence Miss Universe that are closest. Lastly, Scandalous Shenanigans, what was closest were HEMA #10 and Essence Hard To Resist (or it's dupe, Essence Midnight Date), but the last one has a slightly different finish.
To make a long story short, no dupes here! And these 4 are my top picks from those polishes as well, the rich colors, the application, no mini bottles, and...

Stampingtest: And now, the moment we've all been waiting for (or maybe not, heh), do these work for stamping? I don't think I've ever showed a test on paper before, but I'm lazy today so I went for that. Don't worry, you'll see them stamped on my nails soon as well I'm sure! :)

Look at that, yay! It doesn't show so well here, but I do think that Red-y & Willing (middle row) will work best on a similar basecolor, that one worked the least from what I could tell after this little test. After that it's Don't Make Me Wine, but as expected, Scandalous Shenanigans and Tongue & Chic worked awesome. The bottom one, Rendezvous With You, works too, but it indeed gives a slightly sparkly plate and as you can see, the whole polish looks a lot lighter somehow. Will doublecheck on the nail sometime but I think this one might benefit as well from a similar basecolor, to get a good result.

Overall: It's a Fall collection, and I'd say this collection indeed has Fall written all over it! If you're looking for colors like this, I think these polishes are great choice. Bonus points because they work for stamping (did I already say yay? ^^). I think these will be lovely as well for those times where I'm in the mood for a more simple yet pretty mani. The collection gets me in the mood for Fall as well: warm and soft blankets, hot drinks, a cat on my lap (they do that now as well, but I rather have that when it's a bit colder, lol), a nice book, and one of these colors on my nails will do just fine :)

Right, enough blabbering, what do you think of the collection? Are you getting any of these and do they bring you in the mood for fall as well?
